Daily Devotion for May 20
INTRO
This Sunday is Memorial Sunday. All who were in the military are invited to wear a portion of their uniform.
Scripture: Matthew 5:38 – 42
38"You have heard that it was said, 'Eye for eye, and tooth for tooth’ 39But I tell you, Do not resist an evil person. If someone strikes you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also. 40And if someone wants to sue you and take your tunic, let him have your cloak as well. 41If someone forces you to go one mile, go with him two miles. 42Give to the one who asks you, and do not turn away from the one who wants to borrow from you.
QUESTIONS
- Which of the above verses is the most difficult for you?
- Are you the kind of person that does not resist an evil person?
- Are you the kind of person that turns the other cheek?
- Is it ethical for a person who does not do the above to dictate to another to do so (do as I say and not as I do)?
- Does this apply to only an individual or can it apply to a group of folks?
- What would it take for the kind of person who does not do the above to be able to do the above?
