Daily Devotion for July 29

If you are considering attending Tuesday evening, let me know, just to make sure we have plenty of food.

SCRIPTURE: Romans 7:14 The Inner Conflict

We know that the law is spiritual; but I am UNSPIRITUAL, sold as a slave to sin.

QUESTIONS:

  1. What is man?

What is man, that he could be pure,
or one born of woman, that he could be righteous?(Job 15:14)

  1. What is the true nature of human beings?
  2. Is it yin and yang? Two opposites? positive and negative?

UNSPIRITUAL

The Greek word means flesh (carnal).

One of the first steps in solving a problem is to begin honestly. the question of: Are we “unspiritual/flesh”? Is a difficult question. Especially for those of us who were immersed in “I am Okay and You’re Okay. But then again, if i am okay and you’re okay, then why is the world so messed up?

Is it because we are both spiritual (made in the image of God, Genesis 1 & 2), but also “carnal”? (which is the inner conflict of CPT Kirk in episode 5; The Enemy Within)

What does it mean to be carnal?

For Paul in this passage, it implies evil.

Depending on our definition of evil, we may accept Paul’s premise.

THOUGHT TO PONDER

I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do.

DAIly Devotion for July 27

This Sunday we begin our sermon series on: Star Trek. We are going where no church has gone before. In worship we will watch one clip that will propose the question. The following Tuesday we will watch the whole episode. At 6 p.m. - dinner and at 6:30 p.m. the viewing of the episode followed by conversation.

This Sunday, we begin with The Original Series: Star Trek and episode #5. This is the episode where Captain Kirk is beamed off the planet, but there is a problem with the transporter. Inadvertently, two Kirks are beamed up: a good one and a bad one.

QUESTION: Ever feel like there are two of you?

THOUGHT TO PONDER (Romans 7: 15)

15I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do.

SOMETHING TO REMEMBER: This Sunday is also Sandal Sunday. The church will go off to the beach after the second worship.
