Missions - GYTTE
The "Give Ye Them To Eat" Program
offers Training for Transformation at the
"Tree of Life"
Training Center for Integrated Development
Tlancualpican, Puebla, Mexico
The Training Center is located 70 miles southwest of the city of Puebla,
on a 40-acre hillside a short distance from the village of Tlancualpican. The
Center provides a window into the world of development, showcasing the various
services offered by the GYTTE program. An Experimental Farm is maintained
to demonstrate and teach sustainable agricultural methods. The purpose of The
Livestock Unit is to demonstrate environmentally sound livestock management
practices and produce animals for distribution. The Learning Center provides
space for classes, courses and workshops.
Each year hundreds of Mexican and international visitors come to learn about
the program, technologies and development opportunities. Appropriate
technology is an essential tool that is incorporated into every aspect
of life at the Center from soil conservation efforts, sanitation and hydraulic
pumping systems, to the construction methods used. Course participants are
able to see how the development opportunities offered by GYTTE can assist people
in their endeavor to find ways to transform lives and communities.

The GYTTE staff and the Methodist Church
of Mexico are grateful to those who volunteer to participate on Alternative
Work-study And Reality Experience – AWARE
- Teams that come to serve with the “Give Ye Them To Eat” program. Teams
of ten to sixteen people come to serve for nine to ten days at the “Tree
of Life” Training Center for integrated development.
Besides the various work projects at the Training Center and in the community,
the team participates in daily devotions and study segments which are a vital
part of the AWARE experience. The team members attend church services
in the village of Tlancualpican and/or the city of Puebla. They
visit a village project where they have the opportunity to see GYTTE trained
community-based health workers involved in teaching villagers the basics for
good health. Throughout their time in Mexico the team works, worships
and lives beside their Mexican friends and colleagues thus participating in
a truly cross-cultural experience. In January 2010, Mike Easterly from NUMC
will be joining a team led by Tabernacle UMC from Fredericksburg. Virgina.
